Fethi Mansouri speaking at the Migrant Youth Symposium 2019
Professors Fethi Mansouri, Lori Beaman and Serena Hussein at the Migrant Youth Symposium 2019

Professor Mansouri participated in an international panel discussion for the Migrant Youth Symposium Panel 2019. The Symposium aimed to discuss the practices and identities of migrant youth, here and overseas.

Migrant Youth has become a focal point for contemporary academic and political debate in Western countries of immigration. In the post 9/11 era, anxieties over religion and Trump/Brexit populist politics, have fuelled further interest. Critical understandings of the practices and identities of migrant youth are essential.

These understandings must engage with cultural and religious diversity and challenge both real and imagined tensions.

In addition, Professor Mansouri’s research colleagues joined him on the panel. Professor Lori Beaman from Canada and Associate Professor Serena Hussain from the UK unpacked debates on migrant youth and diversity from a local and global perspective.

Together the symposium discussed ways to re-imagine everyday negotiations of cultural and religious diversity.
