Dr Tim Soutphommasane, racism matters to all of us – those fortunate enough not to experience racism have a role to play and need to take a stand.
Now in its fifth year, the annual UNESCO Chairs Oration was delivered to a full house at Deakin downtown last week. The Oration was delivered by the Australian Race Discrimination Commissioner, Dr Tim Soutphommasane on the theme of middle class racism. Dr Soutphommasane is a preeminent thinker in social justice, cultural diversity and human rights.
He has been Race Discrimination Commissioner since August 2013. Prior to joining the Australian Human Rights Commission, Tim was a political philosopher and held posts at The University of Sydney and Monash University. His thinking on multiculturalism, patriotism and national identity has been influential in shaping debates in Australia
