Starting in mid-May, Ramadan brings the diverse communities of Muslims in Australian together. UNESCO Chair holder for Cultural Diversity and Social Justice Prof. Fethi Mansouri discusses the research the Alfred Deakin Institute undertakes as well as the importance of Ramadan.
Examining how Muslim community organisations in Australia respond to Islamophobia, PhD candidate for the UNESCO Chair, Sara Cheikh-Husain, explains how community organisations use Ramadan as a means to reach out to the other communities. Ms Cheikh-Husain explains barriers can be broken by inviting non-Muslims to Iftar dinners where food and conversations are shared.
